Look at the diagram below, observe the pictures and read the hyphenated words. No, I’m not asking you to do the task. (If u want to, please, and please don’t ask me to mark, I am myself have lots of grammatical error in my sentences :P) But this task was given by me to a group of 12 years old for their English class. I was their on-call teacher.
Student A & B: [Talking and laughing] Me: Boys, Whats so funny about? Student A: He said Gerald is gay. [Pointing at student B] Student B: [Sheepishly smile and avoid eye contact] Me: [Not sure whats appropriate to say for a second. Come up with a question to Student A] What is gay? Student A: Pondan! sir [confidently tell me] Me: No, its not. [cant hold the straight face, I did smile] Student A: Yes, it is [smiling] The girls: [Smiling too] Other boys: [No reaction] Me: [Change topic, and laughing inside (No, im not going to change this English class to a sexual education forum)]
Im not surprise they know the jargon (which should not be known by their age at my time), its all over the media (the celebrity gossip etc). But I just don’t understand how they come up with that conclusion (Gerald is gay). Obviously they associate the term with effeminate male (they pics suggest he is befriending with two girls, thus Gerald is not masculine, maybe?), and its not about sexual orientation Haha Even many adult don’t understand this, how can I expect their kids to understand (speakin in Malaysian context). Even some of the so called expert on TV somehow suggest to viewers that gay is about the sexual activity u-know-between-not-the opposite-sex. Thank God im not that shallow and I did take some social science subjects back in college.
I was alerted by MarinaM's blog bout the usage of ink mark on voters in the next General Election (GE) (I didnt read the newspaper yesterday). So far the decision on this hasn't yet been finalised. The obstacle is Islam according to him.
Teresa Kok (DAP – Seputeh): Why the Government had not made a decision to implemen the use of indelible ink in the next general elections? He: Muslims could not perform their prayers if the ink could not be washed off for a few days after voting. For Muslims, when they pray, they have to wash their face, hands and feet and the water (air wuduk) must touch their skin. With indelible ink, the water will not be able to touch the skin and Muslims will not be able to perform their prayers (he said while winding up the debate on the Elections (Amendment) Bill 2007)
Come on, give me a break. Don't speak bout Islam or on behalf of Islam, if he is unsure.
In the past post bout firefly [Firefly can now Fly High], I was wondering where the hell is the 4th model in the Firefly's official web, promoting the 2000 free seats.
Erm, supposed there are six of them, since these jpegs are numbered from 1 to 6 with number 4 missing. When u login to firefly, let me know if you found the 4th model Mayb (s)he got banned, bcos his/her pic doesnt pass the 'level of shock' firefly required. Hehe
Finally, I found the 4th person, and he is in real shock. Too shock, it doesn't pass to appear on the web (pls don't take this seriously, Dear reader :P)
WARNING: TRAVELING BY PLANE CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL WARMING this should be printed on plane tickets in the future, like the warning of harmful health effect of smoking on cigarette box
Kelantan is celebrating the success of Thomas Edison inventing light bulb. Haha. Not really. If you don’t know exactly whats happening here, check out the Chinese Calendar or 'Kalendar Kuda' Here are some of the current pics of the main road in Kota Bharu during the night.
Its beautiful, thousands of colorful lightbulb, but do we know that conventional lightbulb (using electricity generated from coal) contribute loads to global warming?
Fact 1: source link Regular incandescent light bulb vs compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) CFLs use 60% less energy than a regular bulb, this simple switch will save about 300 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
Fact 2: source link How much CO2 is emitted as a result of my using specific electrical appliances? For this answer, we refer you to an excellent article, "Your Contribution to Global Warming," by George Barnwell, which appeared on p. 53 of the February-March 1990 issue of National Wildlife, the magazine of the National Wildlife Federation. The article, assuming that your electricity comes from coal, calculates CO2 emissions corresponding to the use of various electrical appliances. For example, one hour's use of a color television produces 0.64 pounds (lb) of CO2, and each use of a toaster produces 0.12 lbCO2, whereas a day's use of a waterbed heater produces 24 lb CO2. In general, the coefficient is about 2.3 lb CO2 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity. You can calculate the kWh of electricity by multiplying the number of watts (W) the appliance uses times the number of hours (h) it is used, then dividing by 1000. For example a 60-W light bulb operated for 24 h uses (60 W) x (24 h) / (1000) = 1.44 kWh. This use of electricity would produce an emission of (1.44 kWh) x (2.3 lb CO2 per kWh) = 3.3 lb CO2 if the electricity is derived from the combustion of coal.
In a lay man language: source link • 90 per cent of the energy goes into generating heat. • If every American home switched their five most-used light fittings to energy-saving bulbs, they would save $6bn (£3.2bn) and reduce greenhouse gases by nearly half a million tons. Thats really a lot!
And the ironic part is…
"I want to remind the state government that uncontrolled logging meant to clear rubber and oil palm estates, among others, could lead to erosion and global warming," Tuanku Ismail Petra said in his 57th birthday address. Full text from NST Ths also appear on the front page of Utusan Malaysia (Full text)
Yes very true, but I don’t think this only happens exclusively in Kelantan but also applies throughout Malaysia. Check the Google earth and see the green distribution of Malaysia. (pls click for larger image) Observe! Is it greener on the other side?
We all know that trees are the major and the most important natural defense against carbon emission (PDF file that elaborate this). Its true that saving our trees is important, but its also important for us to take part in reducing the green gases for example by using the electricity wisely.
Its not that I wanna insult any entity, but it’s the truth. Its not purely anybody fault either, I guess we as Malaysian don’t really have enough exposure in this issue, bcos we don’t really feel the current impact being felt by majority of ppl globally. I heard lots of my friend in the UK complaining bout the extreme cold even after winter, sudden temperature change etc. The news also broadcast frequent occurrence of natural disaster like hurricane and flood that happens all over the world. Alhamdulillah Malaysia is saved from all this except the flood which happens only once in a while, and we should also be thankful, although the sun sometimes feel too bright and painful. But this doest mean Malaysian should close their eyes and ears to these, eventually everyone will be exposed to the affect, as the earth we share is just a tiny bit. Steps should be taken at all level from organization to personal to keep our earth clean. For example Australia had taken a step ahead by banning the traditional light bulbs. (full article on Australia banning the light bulb).
Warning: This clip might cause severe stomach pain.
I watched this ‘Shin Chan’ episode last Saturday on TV and it had made me laughed till my stomach hurts. Huhu. But that was the Malay version, this Japanese version may only cause mild effect bcos of our null understanding in Japanese:). Thx to sylup for pointing me which one is the episode on YouTube.
Shin Chan is playing with his mum’s medicated plaster. Though Misae had warned him not to use it as he is still a kid, but stubborn Shin Chan ignored her mum advice and played with the plaster. At first try, he felt soooo gooooood, n later put it all over his body, including at the private part, like a sumo wrestler LOL
So Shin Chan who always like to feel he is an adult (proven by plasters all over his body), decided to show it to his friends at the playground. But later he was surprised; when Kazama told that it hurts like hell to pull out the plaster. (Kazama said he had tried it once and it hurts for a month long when he pulled it out). But Shin Chan pretended to be cool in front of his friend and ignored what Kazama said and ran home.
Haha. This is the funniest part, when he tried to pull out all the plasters with his sis, Himawari help. Suddenly he felt the urge to pee. LOL, this is the time I laughed so hard, Haha. He can’t pee bcos the plaster is all over his wee wee and later on had to told her mum about this. Haha
Yes, Shin Chan got scolded by his mum, but not a knock on his head this time, the pain to pull out the plaster was excruciating enough. LOL
p.s. Going back to my hometown for few days this evening, thx to my employer for giving me a leave on Sunday n Monday :). Hope can catch a movie or two at the GSC.
